Letter from Joe Farinella, Plant Personnel Director GM Powertrain Toledo

As it appears in the July 31, 2008, issue of the POWERLine

PICNIC CANCELLED

GM chairman Rick Wagoner announced on July 15, 2008, several initiatives designed to generate the cash required to run our business through 2009.  Subsequently, each GM location was asked to eliminate all non-required spending to support those initiatives.  We have a long, proud history at Toledo of meeting (or exceeding) the expectations of GM leadership in all parts of our business.

This “we deliver” attitude has served our plant well as we have won two new products and positioned ourselves well for additional new work.  Tough decisions need to be made.  One such decision involves our annual Toledo picnic, scheduled for Saturday, August 9.  Our company’s current financial situation will not support the expense of our picnic.  It is an expense we simply cannot justify in light of GM’s current financial situation.  Regrettably, the decision has been made to cancel this year’s picnic.  I ask for your understanding and support as we continue to do what’s required to assure the long-term success of our company.

Joe Farinella
