GM Powertrain Toledo

The Powertrain plant employs 3,500 (+/-) people of which approximately 3300 are UAW represented and approximately 400 are GM salaried employees.

The Powertrain Toledo plant is the 2nd largest full-time employer in the Toledo area. The plant has enjoyed a long history of success in many areas such as quality, safety, costs, employee involvement and market share.

Union/Management relations at this facility have been a case study in doing the right thing since the late 1970's. This, along with the attention to "supporting the employee" has contributed to the ongoing success of the facility.

"Supporting the employee" has many meanings at Powertrain Toledo, one of which is training. This is necessary in order to keep the employee skills at the level demanded by the needs of the business.

The driving forces at the Toledo facility are people, safety, quality, costs and responsiveness to the customer. These are "bottom line" business measures against which all actions are measured. The Joint Union/Management leadership use these measures as a specific focus anytime they communicate to the employees. This continual reinforcement of the important driving forces is what makes this facility an ongoing success.
